The Indiana eLearning department held a webinar this past Tuesday for some of the schools sponsoring conferences this summer. We were given the opportunity to share details about our individual conferences. We thought what better way to share our conference then to have some kids talk about what's going on! We had them re-record what they said so you could hear what a great job they did! Check it out! Feel free to share this video with
For the past few weeks, we've been knee deep in getting things together for this conference! We, along with districts from around the state are holding conferences sponsored by the Indiana Department of Education.
Here's an overview of what our eLearning team has been working on!
When we began planning this we knew we wanted it to be like a party to get educators excited about teaching again. With all of the requirements, evaluations and testing, it has become very difficult for teachers to really enjoy their job. We want this to be a day where educators can relax and truly enjoy the collaboration time and really have fun learning!
To set the tone for the conference we knew we had to pick dynamic, enthusiastic and realistic speakers. We chose George Couros, a phenomenal leader and speaker, as our keynote. George has spoken in Canada, United States, Spain, China, Australia and soon Thailand and is a powerful voice in where education should be headed. He speaks in such a relatable and easy way, that we knew he will be a fantastic way to start the day.
From there, we chose Dr. Alec Couros (George's brother) and Dean Shareski to hold powerful breakout sessions with a panel Q&A to end the day. Alec is a pioneer in transforming teacher education and his most recent project is #etmooc, 'a MassiveOnlineOpenCourse focused on educational technology and media'. Dean was awarded ISTE's Outstanding Leadership in Technology and Media in 2010 and, both he and Alec, have TEDx Talks. They speak around the world and challenge the way teachers and administrators look at education.
Now I know what you're thinking...why are all of your speakers from Canada? And the answer I have is...it just happened to work out that way! And, of course, we here in Plymouth, Indiana, love our neighbors to the far north!
We are going to have three, hour long break-out sessions lead by educators and leaders from across Indiana (still taking proposals!). We have also locked in sessions with MentorMob representatives, Kristin Demidovich and Erin Sheffer, a representative from Promethean Planet and we are in the works to lock in someone from TedEd!
We are going to have a strong student presence this year with students co-leading sessions, introducing speakers and managing our Tech Playground! We are even going to have student DJs and photographers! Our Tech Playground will have all kinds of tools and toys for teachers to play around with and ask questions about. Instead of dedicating sessions to signing up for sites, like Twitter, we are going to have various sign-up stations where students will be there to answer questions and help get people logged in!
Sign up for our mailing list!
Check out our site for more details and ways you can join in on the fun! We are accepting session proposals from any educator or administrator out there (doesn't have to be from Indiana) that is willing to share their passions! You can also sign up to get weekly updates sent right to your inbox!
Registration!Registration will open next week! I will update this post then!
Admin Bootcamp Day! July 30th
This going to be a great opportunity for administrators and school leaders to spend the day with George Couros and refocus and rekindle your passion for leading! This is a free event and registration will be open next week as well! Check out the promotional video for this opportunity!
The evening before the conference, and after the Admin Bootcamp Day, we will be having a Tweet-Up for people traveling into town, educators attending the event and, of course, our speakers! We have rented out one of my favorite places in Plymouth, Indiana, The Alley, which is a part of Opie's Deli! There will live music, food and lots of fun with great people! This will be open to anyone who sees the tweets!
Hope to see you on July 31st! Follow #pcsceQuip13 for updates!
